The grapevine

New in our on board caves this spring we have two wines made by the Henri Bourgeois family. They've been cultivating vines in the heart of the Sancerre region for 10 generations, devoting their passion and values to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir to craft wines of unique expression.
Today the Bourgeois family farm a mosaic of parcels of vines, centred a round the beautiful village of Chavignol, just northeast of Bourges. Altogether there are 65 hectares, taking in the very best slopes of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Each plot is isolated and worked in respect of its individual characteristics ta reveal as closely as possible the expression of its terroireither Kimmeridgian maris, flint or limestone clay soils.
The family winemaking traditions have been passed down lovingly from father to son, combined with a permanent strive for perfection. For the Bourgeois, making wine is a matter of continuous endeavour and improvement in an effort to achieve perfect harmony between variety expression and the terroir. Parcels are carefully selected and grapes are meticulously picked and sorted. Gravity is used at each stage of  the winemaking process, and great care and attention is given to the wines, from maturation on fine lees right up to bottling. The result is an unmistakable and consistent 'Bourgeois' quality. "The wines have received  countless awards as well as praise from leading wine critics"

Their commitment, respect for tradition and innovating spirit have been handsomely repaid. The wines have received countless awards as well as praise from leading wine critics includingJancis Robinson OBE MW, who describes the family as "meticulous growers, producing the best of Sancerre".
We're proud to stock two of the se wines on board, both of them selected blind by the professional sommeliers of Brittany Ferries' tasting committee. One is a red Sancerre called 'Les Baronnes'. and the other is a Pouilly-Fumé called 'En Travertin'. 1 heartily commend them bath to you. Cheers! ....
